What Is EMDR Therapy and How Does It Work?
Have you ever felt stuck — like a painful memory keeps pulling you back no matter how hard you try to move forward? That is exactly what EMDR was designed to help with.
EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing. It is one of the most well-researched treatments for trauma and PTSD, and it is a core part of the work I do at Sessions With Silvia.
## How It Works
Unlike traditional talk therapy, EMDR does not ask you to relive or talk through what happened in detail.
Instead, it uses bilateral stimulation — guided eye movements, gentle taps, or sounds — to help your brain finish processing a memory that got "stuck."
The result?
That memory starts to feel like something that *happened*, rather than something that is still happening.
## What EMDR Can Help With
- Trauma and PTSD
- Anxiety and panic attacks
- Depression tied to grief or loss
- Childhood wounds
- Low self-worth and negative core beliefs
